SmithCo side dump trailers are ideal for waste transportation, hauling a variety of dry and wet waste materials safely and securely. Our tubs feature a watertight design to better transport materials like refuse, byproducts from wastewater treatment and coal-fired electrical plants, hazardous substances, recyclables, and more. These materials stay secure in the tub body and won’t leak onto the roadway.

How Waste Hauling Operations Benefit from Side Dumps

SmithCo side dump trailers have been a trusted solution in the waste hauling industry for years. From agriculture to construction and demolition, SmithCo side dumps handle more waste than all of our competitors combined. They’re built to haul anything from trash, manure, distillers, and riprap to demolition materials, fly ash, waste cake, scrap metal and more.

Meeting the Challenges of Waste Hauling

The waste hauling industry’s biggest challenge is transporting material in a way that’s both safe and secure. SmithCo Side Dump Trailers are the smartest choice for waste transportation for the following reasons:

1. No leaks. Material escaping from a dump trailer is a major concern in the waste industry. End dump trailers often cannot be completely sealed, leading to spillage. SmithCo Side Dump Trailers are watertight, keeping wet and semi-wet materials contained. They can also be equipped with sealable tarps to prevent material from escaping during transport.

2. Stability. While end dumps have long been used for waste hauling, they’re more easily prone to tipping than side dumps. A tip-over can damage equipment, compromise the load and pose serious safety risks to people and nearby operations. SmithCo Side Dump Trailers offer greater stability, helping keep jobsites safer and more efficient.

3. Versatility. Waste materials can vary greatly in weight, density and consistency. Side dump trailers are built to handle  a broad range of loads, offering greater versatility than other trailer types. If it fits in the tub, a side dump can haul it.

Agricultural Waste Hauling

In the agricultural industry, SmithCo offers a range of solutions for waste transportation. Common materials include livestock manure and distillers grains from ethanol production, as well as food processing byproducts like apple waste.

SmithCo works closely with each customer to design a trailer tailored to their operation. Options range from our workhorse SX series tubs to medium high volume, feedlot series and super high-volume tubs when more capacity is required. All tubs are sealed to prevent leaks and are designed to clean out better than any dump trailers in the industry. Wherever agriculture waste is hauled, SmithCo is getting the job done.

Construction Waste Hauling

SmithCo’s name and reputation are second to none in the construction market. Whether hauling riprap from road construction projects or debris from demolition projects, SmithCo’s versatility plays a key role in both industries. Our SX series tubs are the toughest in the side dump industry, perfect for the demanding conditions of the jobsite.

Municipal Waste Hauling

SmithCo supplies a number of side dump trailers to municipalities, where transporting waste to landfills and recycling centers is a key application. Our trailers also handle materials like waste cake from municipal wastewater treatment plants and fly ash from coal-fired power facilities. This work typically calls for our medium and super high-volume trailers, which offer the capacity needed for high-volume hauling.

Side Dump Tarp Options Keep Loads Secure

If you plan to haul light materials in your trailer, or if your state mandates a tarp, SmithCo experts are ready to help you choose the right side dump tarp. We offer several options to meet our customers’ needs.

Mesh tarp fabric

Mesh Tarps

Our mesh tarps contain rocks, dirt, gravel, and sand, although fine sand may blow through the screen.

Mesh is the most economical tarp material, which suits customers who know they’ll periodically have to replace their tarp due to wear and tear.

Vinyl Tarp Fabric

Vinyl Tarps

Our solid vinyl tarps are the right choice for hauling sand, ag lime, or light materials that require more coverage than mesh tarps.

We recommend our sealed vinyl tarp for hauling materials that shouldn’t get wet.

Ballistic Nylon Tarp Fabric

Ballistic Nylon Tarps

Our ballistic nylon tarp is a less common choice for side dump customers, but it is a good option for those who prioritize durability.

This ripstop material will minimize tears and holes. It is a good choice for customers who haul material with jagged edges.
