LE MARS, IA (October, 2026) – SmithCo Mfg., Inc., the industry leader in side dump trailer design and manufacturing, visited Eric Driggers with Driggers Construction in Hamer, South Carolina, to learn more about how he uses SmithCo side dump trailers for a storm drain project.

Driggers Construction recently installed a 72-inch storm drain with the help of their SX2 tandem trailers. These trailers allow them to haul bedding and backfill with the ability to easily dump where needed on the job site. Their side dumps haul in #57 stone for bedding and sand for the backfill.

Driggers mentioned another drainage project that took place along a highway. “We’d have the side dump pull up right beside it, load it, and then he would back up and dump it back in the ditch.” Eric said it was the perfect solution compared to a traditional dump truck where they would have to stop traffic to complete the dump cycle.

When it comes to safety and efficiency, Eric says, “It’s helped us exponentially. Moving material and getting material on site fast and easy and not having to worry about trailers tipping over.” Eric continues explaining how side dumps help keep his mind at ease on the job site. “I don’t have to worry if the ground is perfectly level before they dump, so it helps me sleep at night.”

Eric finishes by stating, “Having good equipment, maintained equipment, keeps the job moving forward on schedule.”
